As the concession holder for the Athens-Corinth-Patras highway, VINCI Highways has, via its Olympia Odos subsidiary, deployed the Smart Tunnel system on its network. Internet of Things (IoT) sensors installed on tunnel equipment collect real-time data. Smart Tunnel uses AI technologies, including statistical learning for real-time monitoring and fault identification, to anticipate maintenance needs, ensuring continuous availability of critical tunnel equipment. In France, LISEA and MESEA are driving innovation in railway maintenance on the SEA HSL. They are developing predictive maintenance solutions by leveraging rail infrastructure data collection systems, a platform called SEACloud, and expert contributions. For instance, GéoVoie monitors changes in track geometry, ensuring maintenance is carried out at the right time. Other apps have been developed for track switching (AiguIAges) and signalling cable insulation (IsoIA).
AROUND100 assistance operations per day on the Vía Sumapaz concession in Colombia.
LISEA and MESEA used big data and AI to understand the mechanisms driving railway track deterioration and model changes in track condition over time. This has resulted in better-targeted maintenance, with 20–30% fewer operations and improved overall track quality. This innovation was among the winners of the “AI for Efficiency” call for expressions of interest launched in 2025 by the French Directorate General for Enterprise.
